The purpose of this survey was to obtain the basic data for developing and promoting
the incremental oral health program. The authors had surveyed the permanent decayed,
missing and filled teeth in 1,072 elementary schoolchildren who were living at urban
area, Kwa-Chon and 875 elementary schoolchildren living at rural area, Yon-Chon. From
the collected data, DMFT index, DT index, MT index, FT index, DT rate, MT rate FT
rate of each age and area were calculated and discussed.
The obtained results were as follows :
1. The DMFT index and the DT index of elementary schoolchildren showed a tendancy
to increase according to age in both urban and rural area.
2. Elementary schoolchildren of rural area gad higher DT index but lower FT index
than those of urban area but DMFT index and MT index did not show difference
between urban and rural area. 3. Elementary schoolchildren of urban area had lower DT
rate but higher FT rate than those of rural area.
4. The school-based incremental dental health care program and the school dental
health education program must be planned and performed for the effective prevention
and treatment for the schoolchildren in both urban and rural area.
